The Adventures of Ryan
This was my first attempt at a time lapse of the Milky Way. I’m going to try to do a longer version. This took about 10 minutes of laying on the ice while my camera shot to get 1 second of time lapse.

Went out half way between Phoenix Airfield and McMurdo and saw some amazing auroras and got a few good pictures of the Milk Way. I’m not as happy with the focus on these pictures. I realize it’s off a bit but it was to amazing not to show.
Nothing major. One of the last few nights before the sun arrives. I hope to have a few more this week. We have a couple of star gazing trips planned so hopefully I’ll get a few more pictures. These were taken just outside of town with my new 14mm f/2.8 lens.
I was inspired by another Astrophotographer down here.
I was able to photograph Jupiter and 4 of it’s moons. This was shot using my normal camera and a 300mm lens.
The first two photos are from late last night of the Moon using a large telephoto lens. After that there are a few of the eclipse starting and then some aurora photos. I’ll be honest I got bored of waiting for totality so I ended up shooting a lot more auroras and forgot about the moon a lot. In the wide photos with two bright “stars” the top one is Mars and the bottom one is the Moon.
The Moon photos are a bit out of focus. Sorry. It’s surprisingly hard to take good photos of the moon.
It was quite amazing to see and I had a lot of fun shooting the photos.
Also this marks the debut of my new lens. 14mm f2.8. All the wide angle shots are with that lens. So far it was a great investment.
Our wonderful lab assistant took a few of us out to Phoenix Airfield to look at stars. It was an amazing time and we even got some aurora photos in the process.
We had some amazing Auroras tonight. The one feature above might be the best picture I’ve ever taken.
I started off the night just taking some star pictures and we got an alert saying there were auroras near Scott Base. We went out and these were in the sky. They were green to the plain eye and you could see the curtains waving.
Just wanted to show off my glasses repair job. Tried to match the colors. This was the best I could do.
I’m quite proud of the repair job. Epoxy to glue everything back together and shrink wrap to create tension and make it look nice.
Went out to take some pictures of stars. No Auroras out tonight but I caught the LiDAR laser at work. It is the red line in all the photos. The LiDAR Project is investigating middle and upper atmosphere temperature, composition, chemistry, and dynamics at McMurdo, Antarctica.

A few light Auroras. Nothing award winning here. Just wanted to share with people back home. When I shot these the temperature was -28ยฐF. Luckily little to no wind tonight.
