Update as promised.
Antarctica Main Body Starts 2017
Summer just started in Antarctica. Our first plane of Main Body. Main Body is Antarctica’s busy time of the year when all the scientist arrive to do their work. After these 4 trips we will have around 500 and then it will grow to 1000 very quickly.
McMurdo Update 10/13/2017
Two video updates today. These were shot on different days and I might have forgotten to upload the first one. The second video will show up here once it is done uploading.
Poorly Shot Update
McMurdo Dive Shack
I went out with the Networking today to help dewinterize some of the buildings. This entails putting back all the equipment that is pulled from the buildings so they can go cold during winter. One of them was the McMurdo Dive Shack. In a few months they will be sending divers under the ice to document and explore. Also at the end I added a couple of picture of the storm blowing in today.
McMurdo 24 Hour Sundial
Just an update on the 24 hour sun dial. I took the picture at 4:49PM. So it was pretty close. I’ll post more pictures in a few weeks once it works at 1AM.
McMurdo Lunch
This is what it take some days to go get lunch. I decided to bring you along on my lunch commute.
McMurdo Whiteout
We had whiteout conditions today at McMurdo. The camera was able to see better than me. When I looked outside all I could see was the guard rail and almost nothing past that. This is still a Condition 2 storm. Condition 1 is worse that this.

Helicopter Flights
Just a quick update. The Helicopter started flying here. I saw them take off for the first time. I’ll add more pictures and video to this page as I get to see more flights.
Helicopter Spin Up
The Helo Techs were out working on the helicopters today. This was the first time I have heard one spin up. They didn’t take off. I imagine they were just doing a full systems inspection on the helicopters before Main body gets here. During that time we will have flights every day. Those helicopters have been in cold storage all Winter so they have to check them thoroughly.
